## Synopsis

1670 is a Polish satirical period comedy created for Netflix by Maciej Buchwald, Kordian Kądziela and Jakub Rużyłło. Its zany nobleman, played by Bartłomiej Topa, is driven by one ambition: to become the most famous person in Poland. Around him, his household and rivals keep colliding with tangled family feuds and open clashes with the peasants who work the family's land. Each brisk half-hour unfolds through escalating misunderstandings, pompous speeches and sudden reversals of fortune. It is one continuing story rather than a case of the week, and its world is one of manor houses, petty squabbles and rigid social hierarchy played for laughs. The tone is irreverent and breezy, with a satirical streak that mocks status and vanity while keeping its characters good-natured and absurd. Viewers who enjoy the self-regarding humour of Blackadder or the absurd period mischief of Monty Python will find a similar pleasure here, in a comedy that treats its pompous lead with affectionate mockery throughout.
