## What critics say

Heroes is widely regarded as a genre-defining network superhero drama whose strong first season, with its ensemble of ordinary people discovering powers, gave way to uneven later storytelling.

## Synopsis

Heroes (2006-2010) is a US network serialized science fiction drama created by Tim Kring for NBC. Ordinary people across the country wake up to extraordinary abilities, and their separate lives gradually braid together as a looming catastrophe draws them toward one another. Noah Bennet (Jack Coleman), a claims adjuster with a hidden past, guards his adopted daughter Claire (Hayden Panettiere), who discovers she cannot be harmed. Nathan Petrelli (Adrian Pasdar) pursues political ambition, his brother Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) searches for his own gift, and Japanese office worker Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka) wants to bend time to change his fate. Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy), a geneticist, follows his father's research trail while the menacing Gabriel Gray (Zachary Quinto) hunts others with powers. The engine is each character's private hunger colliding with a shared prophecy, and episodes are built from cliffhanger-driven reveals across four seasons of one continuing story. Set in present-day America, the show carries a hopeful, earnest, comic-book wonder, shadowed by paranoia and dread. Fans of Lost, Misfits and The Gifted will find resonance in its mythology-heavy ensemble.
