## Synopsis

Carol & the End of the World (2023) is an American adult animated miniseries created by Dan Guterman and released on Netflix. Carol, voiced by Martha Kelly, is a woman who cannot bring herself to embrace the chaos that comes with a looming planetary extinction, and across ten brief episodes of roughly half an hour each she tries to find meaning in her last months on Earth. The engine of the show is her restless search, as she wanders through the everyday rituals of a world that has stopped planning for tomorrow and tests what matters when nothing can be postponed. Supporting voice performances from Megan Mullally, Michael Chernus, Bridget Everett and Sean Giambrone fill out the cast of friends, relatives and strangers she encounters along the way. Set in a contemporary American landscape rendered in the present day, the story moves in self-contained vignettes that build into one continuing arc, giving it the feel of a single extended meditation. Its tone blends absurdist humor with a quiet, resigned melancholy and an undercurrent of tenderness. Fans of BoJack Horseman, Don't Look Up and Station Eleven will find resonance in its mix of dark comedy, adult animation and reflection on mortality.
