## Synopsis

Surviving Black Hawk Down (2025) is a British-produced documentary miniseries for Netflix, created by Sam Hobkinson and Jack Macinnes, and presented as a three-episode limited series of about 52 minutes each. Rather than dramatizing events, it lets US soldiers and Somali fighters speak for themselves, recalling the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu in extraordinary detail. Their testimony follows the engine of the story: a raid meant to be quick and surgical, and the moment when three Black Hawk helicopters were brought down over the city, turning a mission into a day of street fighting, rescue attempts and loss. Each episode is made of interlocking memories, so the same afternoon is seen from the cockpit, the streets and the other side of the firefight. The mood is sober, intense and unsentimental, with the voices carrying grief, pride and confusion in equal measure. Its setting is the Somali capital during the early 1990s civil war, and its atmosphere is close and urgent. Viewers who appreciated the feature film Black Hawk Down, or the factual combat storytelling of Band of Brothers and The Vietnam War, will find the same weight of firsthand testimony here.
