## Synopsis

El Maleficio (2023-2024) is a Mexican telenovela remake of the classic 1983 series created by Fernanda Villeli, adapted by Leonardo Bechini and produced by José Alberto Castro for Las Estrellas and TelevisaUnivision. Fernando Colunga plays Enrique de Martino, a wealthy and powerful businessman who secretly practices dark magic to build his fortune and control the people around him, while Marlene Favela stars as Beatriz Almazán, the widow he marries and draws into his supernatural world. Sofía Castro plays Victoria 'Vicky' Montes, and Jacqueline Andere and Rafael Inclán round out the principal cast. Across a single season of 82 episodes, the story unfolds as a continuing serialized drama in which each chapter escalates occult rituals, hidden conspiracies and buried family secrets as Beatriz and her loved ones try to uncover the source of the curse threatening their lives. Set in present-day Mexico, the series builds dread through melodrama, lavish domestic interiors and eerie suspense, a register of romance, betrayal and supernatural menace. Fans of the 1983 original, La Usurpadora and Cuna de lobos will find the same mix of passion, villainy and dark intrigue.
