## Synopsis

Rebus (2024-present) is a British crime drama series created for BBC Scotland, adapted from Ian Rankin's novel character. Richard Rankin plays a younger Detective Sergeant John Rebus, a dogged Edinburgh detective whose professional life collides with his own family when his brother Michael, played by Brian Ferguson, a former soldier, crosses the line into criminality. Siobhan Clarke (Lucie Shorthouse) works alongside him as a sharp partner, while Ger Cafferty (Stuart Bowman) and Darryl Christie (Noof Ousellam) represent the violent underworld pressing in on every investigation. The engine is simple and taut: Rebus must choose between the rules of his job and loyalty to a brother who has become dangerous. Each episode builds through tense interviews, shifting alliances, and brutal confrontations in the wet streets and back rooms of the city. The series unfolds in a single continuing storyline across six episodes of about forty-seven minutes, a compact limited run. Its mood is gritty, brooding and morally uneasy, with a bleak, tense register that rewards close attention. Fans of Happy Valley, Line of Duty and Peaky Blinders will find the same blend of working-class British crime and a flawed lawman under strain.
