## Synopsis

The Asunta Case (2024) is a Spanish true crime miniseries created by Jon de la Cuesta, Gema R. Neira, Ramón Campos and David Orea for Netflix. Across six episodes it dramatizes the disappearance of a twelve-year-old girl, following the investigators who grow suspicious of the adoptive parents who first raised the alarm. Candela Peña plays Rosario Porto and Tristán Ulloa plays Alfonso Basterra, the couple at the center of the case, while Carlos Blanco and María León play the officers Javier Ríos and Cristina Cruces, whose methodical work pulls the story forward. Each episode builds the tension of a missing child investigation, moving between interrogation rooms, family homes and courtroom proceedings as contradictions pile up. The engine is a question of who is telling the truth, rendered in a grounded, restrained style. Set in modern Galicia, Spain, the series is sober and unsettling, with a heavy atmosphere of grief and doubt. Viewers who enjoy The Jinx, When They See Us and Making a Murderer will find the same mix of real events, procedural detail and moral unease here.
