## Synopsis

Macken (1986) is a Swedish six-part musical sitcom created by Claes Eriksson for SVT, a short self-contained miniseries built around comic songs and sketch-like episodes. Anders Eriksson plays Roy and Jan Rippe plays Roger, two repairmen running a modest petrol station who refuse to give up their livelihood when the local authority plans to close it and build a motorway over the spot. Their engine is simple and stubborn: every scheme to stop the roadworks becomes a fresh excuse for a song, a bit of physical slapstick, or a ridiculous detour. The episodes move briskly, and the show carries a playful mystery thread about a lost white Opel that gives the comedy a light sense of quest. Ensemble members from the Swedish comedy troupe Galenskaparna och After Shave fill out a range of supporting roles, which gives the series its loose, improvised energy. Set in 1980s Sweden, it has a homespun, nostalgic atmosphere, a cozy absurdity, and a warm defiance of progress. Viewers who enjoy Fawlty Towers, Only Fools and Horses, or the quirky musical comedy of Galenskaparna och After Shave will find a similar resonance in its small-town stubbornness and sung punchlines. It runs six episodes and has a single season, so it is easy to finish in an evening.
