## Synopsis

The Count of Monte Cristo (2025) is an Italian national-television period adventure miniseries created by Bille August for Rai 1. Sam Claflin plays young sailor Edmond Dantès, who is wrongfully imprisoned, escapes, and uncovers a hidden treasure before reinventing himself as the wealthy Count of Monte Cristo. Ana Girardot appears as Mercedes, the woman he left behind, while Blake Ritson plays the scheming Danglars and Jeremy Irons plays the Abbé Faria, the mentor who shapes Edmond's future. The engine of the story is a patient, meticulous plan: the Count moves through aristocratic salons and Mediterranean ports, manipulating those who betrayed him while nursing a wound that refuses to heal. Each of the eight fifty-four-minute episodes is a steady step in a single continuing arc, making this a one-season limited series. The atmosphere is sweeping and melancholic, with a wistful undercurrent beneath its grand adventure and a hunger for justice. Fans of Poldark, The Borgias and Vikings will find resonance in its blend of period spectacle, dynastic intrigue and a vengeful protagonist.
