## Synopsis

Mad Jack the Pirate (1998-1999) is an American animated comedy series created by Bill Kopp and Jeff DeGrandis for FOX and Fox Kids, produced by Saban Entertainment. The protagonist is Pirate Jack, a rather unsuccessful and cowardly sea captain who never doubts his own excellence, sailing with his dim-witted anthropomorphic rat sidekick Snuk aboard their ship the Sea Chicken. Voice cast includes Billy West, Brad Garrett, Cam Clarke, Tom Kenny and April Winchell, who give the characters their bluster and bumbling charm. The engine of the show is the gap between Jack's grand self-image and his constant mishaps, with each self-contained episode built around a new voyage, a new scheme, and a new run of slapstick misadventure. Running one season of 23 half-hour episodes, it is a light kids' cartoon with a breezy, irreverent tone and affectionate absurdity. Set in an unspecified seafaring world with no fixed era, it sits in the tradition of late 1990s Saturday morning animation. Fans of The Pirates of Dark Water, SpongeBob SquarePants and Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels will find a similar mix of cartoon swashbuckling and goofy comedy.
