## Synopsis

After the Flood is a British crime drama created by Mick Ford for ITV1. Sophie Rundle plays PC Joanna Marshall, who finds an unidentified man dead in a lift in an underground car park after a devastating flood. The police assume he became trapped as the waters rose, but Joanna is obsessed with discovering what really happened to him. Nicholas Gleaves plays her sergeant, Phil Mackie, while Philip Glenister and Jill Halfpenny appear in the investigation's orbit. The engine of the series is her stubborn pursuit of the truth against institutional inertia, played out through interviews, flood-damaged neighborhoods and the grim logistics of a waterlogged city. The show runs for two seasons of six episodes each, with a steady, serialized investigation rather than a case of the week. Its tone is sober and unhurried, with a melancholic atmosphere of loss and damp, rain-soaked streets. Themes of civic responsibility and grief run beneath the mystery. Fans of Broadchurch, Happy Valley and The Killing will find resonance in its grounded British procedural texture and its investigator who will not let a death go quietly.
