## Synopsis

Past Lies (2024) is a Spanish mystery drama miniseries adapted from a novel and produced by DLO Producciones, created by José Manuel Lorenzo and released on Disney+. Its six hour-long episodes follow a group of women whose adult lives are thrown into turmoil when a high school classmate who vanished twenty-five years earlier during their senior trip suddenly reappears. Elena Anaya plays Rita, Belén Cuesta plays Teresa, Irene Escolar plays Paula, and Marta Etura plays Sole, each carrying a different piece of what happened on that trip. The engine of the story is the slow reconstruction of a shared secret, as each woman must decide how much of her respectable present she is willing to risk to keep the old silence intact. Flashbacks to the senior trip thread through the present-day storyline, so the mystery unfolds through memory, half-truths and tense confrontations between old friends. Set in contemporary Spain, the series is a single continuing story rather than a case-of-the-week format, and it moves at a deliberate, character-driven pace. Its tone is melancholic and suspenseful, with a steady undercurrent of guilt and dread. Fans of Big Little Lies, The Affair and The Red Lady will find resonance in its layered female ensemble and its patient unpicking of a buried past.
