## Synopsis

La Palma (2024) is a Norwegian disaster miniseries created by Martin Sundland, Lars Gudmestad and Harald Rosenløw-Eeg for Netflix. Across four episodes of roughly 44 minutes each, a family's winter holiday on the Canary Island of La Palma becomes a race against time. Fredrik, played by Anders Baasmo Christiansen, leads his relatives through a hotel stay that is upended when a young researcher, played by Ingrid Bolsø Berdal as Jennifer, notices alarming seismic signs pointing toward an imminent volcanic eruption. The engine of the story is the gap between what the researcher knows and what the vacationers are willing to believe, as each episode tightens the countdown and forces characters to act on fragile information. Johannes Joner and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson round out the principal cast. This is a limited series built around one escalating catastrophe rather than a continuing saga. Its tone is tense and propulsive, with a mounting sense of dread and spectacle. Fans of The Wave and Volcano will find resonance in its blend of Nordic disaster drama and ordinary people facing nature's fury.
