## Synopsis

The Bernie Mac Show (2001-2006) is an American network sitcom created by Larry Wilmore for FOX. Comic actor Bernie Mac plays a fictionalized version of himself, Bernie McCullough, a stand-up-honed family man who unexpectedly raises his sister's three kids in Los Angeles. Kellita Smith plays Wanda, his patient wife, while Jeremy Suarez, Camille Winbush and Dee Dee Davis play the kids, Jordan, Vanessa and Bryana. The engine of each episode is simple and concrete: Bernie tries to impose order on a house of school projects, bedtime negotiations and neighborhood squabbles, and the kids push back with their own schemes. Bernie frequently breaks the fourth wall, speaking straight to the camera with sardonic asides that give the comedy its bite. Across five seasons of 22-minute episodes, the show stays a warm, brisk, sharply observed family comedy with a sincere heart beneath the jokes. Fans of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Everybody Hates Chris and Family Matters will find resonance in its blend of comic-led domestic chaos and affectionate family warmth.
