## Synopsis

Barareh Nights (2005-2006) is an Iranian national-television comedy series created by Mehran Modiri for IRIB TV3. Mehran Modiri plays Shir Farhad, son of the khan of Lower Barare, a rural village whose leading families bicker constantly with their rivals in Upper Barare. Shir Farhad rescues a fugitive Tehran journalist, Kiyanoosh, played by Siamak Ansari, after a snakebite and nurses him back to health, and the newcomer's arrival turns the village's feuding households and their eccentric residents into a steady run of comic situations. Shaghayegh Dehghan plays his sister Saharnaz, and Mohammadreza Hedayati and Reza Shafieijam round out the principal cast as neighbors and rival heirs. The series is a single season of ninety-two episodes, each around ninety minutes, built from episodic village misadventures rather than a continuing plot. Its tone is warm, playful and gently satirical, with a flamboyant village poet and a comic gendarme adding color to a community defined by pride and mischief. Set in a rural Iranian village that stands in for a feudal past, the show plays like a family-friendly ensemble comedy of manners. Fans of Dad's Army, Yes Minister and Seinfeld will find kinship in its ensemble humor and its gentle satire of small-town vanity.
