## Synopsis

Chopped (2009-present) is an American Food Network cooking competition created by Michael Krupat, Dave Noll and Linda Lea. Host Ted Allen guides four up-and-coming chefs through a fast paced hour in which each contestant must turn a basket of unusual, everyday ingredients into a three-course meal. After every course, a panel of culinary luminaries including Alex Guarnaschelli, Geoffrey Zakarian, Marc Murphy, Aarón Sánchez and Scott Conant tastes the dishes and eliminates one cook, or chops them, until a single survivor claims victory. The engine of each episode is the pressure of the clock and the pantry: contestants improvise with mismatched items, race to plate under scrutiny, and try to justify bold choices to judges who rarely hide their verdicts. The series runs for dozens of seasons as a continuing run of standalone competitions rather than a serialized story, so each episode stands on its own. Its tone is brisk, energetic and sometimes tense, with a warm, sporting feel that rewards fans of Iron Chef America, Top Chef and MasterChef.
