## Synopsis

Los Parientes Pobres (1993) is a Mexican telenovela produced by Televisa and broadcast on Las Estrellas, created by Liliana Abud. The series follows Margarita Santos Rivera, played by Lucero, as she moves through a web of family loyalties, romance and social pressure, with Ernesto Laguardia as Jesús Chucho Sánchez and Chantal Andere as Alba Zavala among its principal figures. Its supporting cast includes Humberto Elizondo as Paulino Zavala and Rogelio Guerra as Ramiro Santos, whose households pull the younger characters in opposite directions. The story runs across seventy-five episodes in a single complete season, built around romantic entanglements, inheritance disputes and the strain of poverty against wealthy relatives. Each episode advances a long emotional arc through confrontations, reconciliations and secret rivalries rather than standalone cases. The tone is heightened and melodramatic, with sentimental swells, sharp family betrayals and a warm, earnest romantic core. Set in contemporary Mexico of the early 1990s, it is a classic telenovela in the tradition of Rosalinda and Maria la del Barrio, and fans of those shows will find the same blend of class tension and devoted romance here.
