## Synopsis

Gargoyles (1994-1997) is an American animated action adventure series created for ABC and syndication. Goliath, the leader of a clan of stone gargoyles who guard a Scottish castle in 994 A.D., is cursed to sleep in stone for a thousand years. When billionaire David Xanatos moves the castle to New York City, the clan awakens in the present day and forms an uneasy alliance with police detective Elisa Maza. Goliath and his sworn brothers navigate a city that has no place for creatures of the night, while Demona, the exiled gargoyle with her own grudge, schemes against them. The engine of the show is a steady rhythm of nightly protection missions, daylight stone sleep, and an ongoing tug between human allegiance and ancient vows. Across three seasons and seventy-eight episodes the series blends standalone villain-of-the-week adventures with a serialized mythology of curses, betrayals, and loyalty. Its tone is earnest, brooding, and sometimes operatic, with a gothic atmosphere. Fans of Batman: The Animated Series and Teen Titans will find resonance in its mix of noir-tinged city nights and heroic myth.
