## Synopsis

Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire (2009) is a British-American comedic sword and sorcery series created by Peter Knight for Comedy Central and BBC Two. Sean Maguire plays the title hero Krod Mandoon, a would-be warrior whose quest is undercut by his own incompetence, while Matt Lucas plays the pompous Chancellor Dongalor, a court schemer with grand ambitions and little competence. Kevin Hart appears as Zezelryck, adding to a cast that includes India de Beaufort, Steve Speirs, Marques Ray, Alex Macqueen, Roger Allam and John Rhys-Davies in supporting roles. The engine of the series is the gap between heroic ambition and bumbling execution, as each thirty-minute episode builds a fantasy adventure around a sword, a sorcerous plot and a band of companions who keep getting in the way of one another. Its single season of six episodes is a self-contained comic serial rather than a case-of-the-week format, and it plays as a short, brisk spoof of the clichés of quest fantasy. The tone is deadpan, arch and silly, with the bluster of its characters the main source of humour. Its setting is a fictional, invented fantasy realm with no real-world era. Fans of Blackadder, Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Died Laughing will find a similar affection for genre parody and absurd self importance.
