## Synopsis

Echoes of the Past (2024) is an Egyptian crime mystery miniseries created by Mohamed El Masry for Netflix. Asser Yassin plays Yahya, a man accused of his sister's murder who refuses to accept the verdict and sets out to unmask the true perpetrator. Mahmoud Hemida plays Yasin, and Sherif Salama plays Ali, both drawn into the web of suspicion surrounding the case. Saba Mubarak as Mona and Rakeen Saad as Laila add further layers to the family and social circles where secrets sit just beneath the surface. The engine of the show is a single determined man pushing against a closed circle of suspects, each interview and confrontation peeling back another layer of the crime. Across eight episodes of roughly thirty-five minutes each, the story moves as one continuing investigation rather than a case of the week. The tone is tense and brooding, with a current of grief and vengeance running through every scene, and the visual approach keeps the focus tightly on faces and rooms. Fans of The Night Of and Broadchurch will find resonance in its slow reveals and moral strain. Its contemporary Cairo setting is a backdrop to a story of personal reckoning, and its mature content earns the TV-MA rating.
