## Synopsis

Grotesquerie (2024) is a American horror mystery series created by Ryan Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken for FX, a single-season run of ten episodes that was canceled. Niecy Nash-Betts plays Detective Lois Tryon, a investigator who feels a string of heinous crimes in a small community is eerily personal, as if someone or something is taunting her. Courtney B. Vance co-stars as Marshall Tryon, and Nicholas Alexander Chavez plays Father Charlie Mayhew, with Micaela Diamond as Sister Megan Duval and Lesley Manville as Nurse Redd rounding out the principal cast. The engine of the show is the hunt itself: Lois chases a killer whose murders carry religious overtones, while reporters and churchmen withhold information and secrets surface in each episode. Its shape is a single continuing mystery across all ten episodes rather than a case of the week. The tone blends grotesque gore and lurid spectacle with camp, unsettling religious unease and moments of sudden theatrical excess that divide viewers. Fans of American Horror Story and Hannibal will recognize the Murphy house style of heightened, stylized dread. The setting is a contemporary American small town, and the atmosphere is unsettling, lurid and darkly comic by turns.
