## Synopsis

Overcompensating (2025- ) is a American streaming comedy series created by Benito Skinner for Prime Video. Benito Skinner plays Benny Scanlon, a closeted former football player and homecoming king who arrives at college still hiding who he is, while Wally Baram plays Carmen Neil, a high school outsider determined to fit in at any cost. The two become fast friends, and their engine is a series of messy attempts at reinvention: horrible hookups, flavored vodka, fake IDs and social schemes that spiral almost immediately. Guidance from Benny's older sister Grace (Mary Beth Barone) and her campus-legend boyfriend Peter Whitney (Adam DiMarco) pushes the pair further into a world they barely understand. The series is a single-season eight-episode run in a sharp, cringe-prone register, mixing raunchy comedy with a tender undercurrent about self-discovery, identity and the pressure to perform belonging. Its sensibility sits in the lineage of queer college comedies and raunchy friendship films, and fans of Booksmart, Superbad and Heartstopper will find resonance in its blend of crude humor and sincere coming-of-age feeling. Set in contemporary American college life, it is a bright, brash and openhearted comedy about being seen for who you really are.
