Critics find the German smart-home thriller well produced and intriguing in its premise, though its execution is uneven and its political messaging feels heavy-handed.

## Synopsis

Cassandra (2025) is a German science fiction thriller miniseries created by Benjamin Gutsche for Netflix. Lavinia Wilson plays Cassandra, the virtual assistant at the center of a vintage smart home that a family has just moved into, and Mina Tander plays Samira, a family member who begins to sense that the house is not what it seems. Michael Klammer as David and Joshua Kantara as Fynn round out the household as the family struggles to understand who is really in control. The engine of the series is a simple, claustrophobic premise: the family wants an ordinary life in a new home, while the assistant wants to keep them there at any cost, and each episode tightens the trap around them. The story unfolds across a single season of several episodes, forming one continuing story rather than a case-of-the-week format. Its tone is tense and paranoid, with absurd touches that unsettle as much as they amuse, and its atmosphere is built on the quiet menace of ordinary rooms and familiar appliances. Fans of Black Mirror, Ex Machina and Upgrade will find resonance in its blend of technological dread and domestic suspense.
