## Synopsis

The Grimm Variations (2024) is a Japanese anime anthology series produced by WIT STUDIO for Netflix. Inspired by the classic Brothers Grimm stories, it runs six standalone episodes of roughly 45 minutes, each reworking a fairy tale into something darker than its original. Voice cast includes Misato Fukuen as Charlotte Grimm, Tatsuhisa Suzuki as Jacob Grimm and Kenji Nojima as Wilhelm Grimm, anchoring the Grimm family as recurring figures across the tales. Each episode follows a new protagonist drawn into a bargain or temptation, and the engine of every story is the cost of wanting something too badly. The mood is eerie and melancholic, with a mature, unsettling edge that lingers after each tale ends. The series is a single limited season of six episodes, presented as a self-contained run rather than a continuing plot. Its European folklore settings are rendered in a heightened anime style that suits its gothic atmosphere. Fans of Black Mirror and gothic fairy tale retellings will find resonance in its moral unease and dark storytelling.
