## Synopsis

Earth Abides (2024) is an American post-apocalyptic science fiction miniseries created by Todd Komarnicki for MGM+. Alexander Ludwig plays Isherwood Ish Williams, one of the few shattered survivors left after a plague of unprecedented virulence sweeps across the globe and wipes out most of humanity. Across six episodes, Ish and the handful of people who find each other must confront a world where the machinery of civilization grinds down day by day, with failing power, silent cities, and the question of how to rebuild anything at all. The engine of the story is survival tempered by the slow loss of everything people once depended on, and each episode turns on practical problems of food, shelter, and fragile community. Adapted from a novel, the series is an unhurried study of decline and endurance, its tone sombre and contemplative rather than action-driven. The atmosphere is quiet and unsettling, with long stretches of emptiness that make the human struggle feel small against the scale of loss. Fans of The Last of Us, Station Eleven and The Stand will find resonance in its portrait of a pandemic-scarred America trying to hold together. Set in the present day of its broadcast, the story unfolds in the American landscape, with the collapse of modern life as its central subject.
