## Synopsis

Braceface (2001-2006) is a Canadian animated teen comedy series created by Melissa Clark for Teletoon. Its protagonist, junior high student Sharon Spitz (voiced by Alicia Silverstone in the cast credits), wants nothing more than an ordinary adolescence, but her braces keep getting in the way of crushes, friendships, and social standing at Mary Pickford Junior High. Each episode is a self-contained school-day comedy built from small embarrassments, awkward encounters, and the pressures of fitting in. Her family life adds further texture: parents Helen and Adam Spitz and her brother Josh, voiced by Michael Cera in one of his early credits, appear regularly, while classmates Alden Jones and Conner MacKenzie round out her circle. The show spans three seasons and seventy-eight episodes, playing as a light, sunny, gently comic portrait of middle school life set in the small British Columbian town of Elkford. Its tone is breezy, warm, and cheerfully self-deprecating, closer to the wholesome, relatable cartoons of its era than to sharp satire. Fans of Recess, Doug, and Arthur will find a similar blend of school-yard humor and adolescent heart.
