## Synopsis

The Red King (2024) is a British folk horror mystery miniseries created by Toby Whithouse and broadcast on U&Alibi. Anjli Mohindra plays DS Grace Narayan, a police officer who informed on colleagues for assaulting an alleged rapist and is now posted as sergeant to St Jory, a small Welsh island. Her investigation into the disappearance of a local boy named Cai pulls her against islanders who guard their secrets closely. James Bamford plays Owen Parry, and Adjoa Andoh plays Lady Heather Nancarrow, a figure whose authority over the community looms over every inquiry. Across six episodes of roughly forty five minutes each, the engine of the story is Grace's stubborn questioning, which keeps uncovering local histories and suspicions of a pagan cult called True Way that the islanders insist no longer exists. The series is a single continuous story rather than a case of the week. Its tone is unsettling and atmospheric, built on folk horror dread, rainy isolation and a sense that the community's quiet conceals something old. Fans of The Wicker Man, Broadchurch and Hinterland will find resonance in its blend of police procedure, rural secrecy and supernatural unease. Set in the present day on a remote Welsh island, it offers a contained, eerie mystery for viewers who like slow, layered puzzles.
