## Synopsis

Little House on the Prairie (1974-1983) is an American family western drama created by Ed Friendly and Laura Ingalls Wilder for NBC, adapted from Wilder's autobiographical memoir books. Michael Landon plays Charles Ingalls, a restless father who uproots his wife Caroline (Karen Grassle) and their daughters, including Melissa Gilbert as Laura, from the Wisconsin woods to start over on a farm in Walnut Grove, Minnesota. The engine of each episode is simple and concrete: the family battles failed crops, money worries, illness, and the unfriendly storekeeper Nels Oleson (Richard Bull) and his wife Harriet (Katherine MacGregor), while building a community through school, church, and neighborly favors. Across nine seasons and roughly two hundred episodes, the series works as a sequence of self-contained stories that accumulate into a long family saga, with Laura's growing up and courtship as recurring threads. Set in 1870s and 1880s prairie America, it carries a warm, hopeful, sentimental register that balances hardship with humor and faith. Its tone is gentle and comforting, closer to the pioneer family dramas of The Waltons and the open-range wholesome storytelling of Bonanza. Fans of wholesome family television will find it a comforting, old-fashioned rewatch.
