## Synopsis

River Monsters (2009-2017) is a British-American factual nature docuseries created for Animal Planet, presented by extreme angler Jeremy Wade, who travels to remote rivers, lakes and tropical waterways to hunt freshwater fish with a documented taste for human flesh. Wade himself is the only principal figure, wading into muddy currents, casting baited lines and wrestling giant catfish, piranha-like predators and other creatures while local fishermen, witnesses and scientists help him track each case. Each episode works like a case of the week, opening with a reported attack or disappearance, building a mystery about which species is responsible, and then resolving into a physical battle of wills between man and nature. Across nine seasons and fifty-nine episodes the format stays consistent, with the appeal resting on its rip-roaring pacing, its genuine danger and the host's obvious wonder at the animals he pursues. The tone is adventurous and suspenseful without being gratuitous, closer to a wildlife expedition than a horror show. Fans of Planet Earth II, Man vs. Wild and Dirty Jobs will find similar appeal in its hands-on exploration and its blend of natural history with edge-of-the-seat chase.
