## Synopsis

Fantasmas (2024) is a surreal comedy series created by Julio Torres for HBO, a single-season limited series of six half-hour episodes. Julio Torres stars as a version of himself alongside Martine Gutierrez as Vanesja and Tómas Matos as Chester, with Steve Buscemi and Paul Dano appearing in single episodes. The engine of the show is a simple quest: Julio has lost a gold oyster earring and searches for it, and each episode becomes a self-contained vignette in which he meets offbeat characters and reflects on their lives. Those encounters unfold across a dreamy, alternate version of New York City, where ordinary streets feel slightly off and strange situations are played with deadpan logic. The tone blends introspective melancholy with eerie unease and sharp comic observation, so the mood shifts from wistful to uncanny to funny within a single scene. Fans of Dave, Atlanta and Random Acts of Flyness will find resonance in its blend of absurdist humor, urban wandering and personal reflection. Its surrealism and fantastic realism make it a distinctive, bingeable watch for viewers who like comedy that is strange, intimate and quietly unsettling.
