## Synopsis

When Destiny Brings the Demon (2025) is a Chinese web-novel adaptation xianxia romance series created by Fu Hua and released on Youku. Modern office drone Zou Yan is transported into the body of Liao Tingyan, a disciple of the Qinggutian Sect, and is assigned to serve Grandmaster Sima Jiao (Arthur Chen), a powerful cultivator who has been sealed inside a mountain for five hundred years and is consumed by isolation and rage. Her original identity is a demonic assassin, a secret she does not yet know. Played by Wang Yinglu, Liao Tingyan approaches each day with a low-effort, unbothered attitude that unsettles the brooding master, who finds her lack of ambition and desire fascinating. The engine of the story is the slow, uneasy bond between a vengeful immortal and a healing-type slacker, shaped by sect politics, cultivation trials and the hidden threads of her past. The single season of thirty-three episodes unfolds as a continuing serialized story, with a costume drama texture of mountain halls, sect rivalries and immortal battles. Its tone is wry and tender, balancing lighthearted modern humor with melancholic longing. Fans of The Untamed and Eternal Love will find resonance in its blend of transmigration, romance and wuxia spectacle.
