## Synopsis

Death Valley (2025-present) is a British BBC One cozy crime comedy created by Paul Doolan. Timothy Spall plays John Chapel, a retired neighbour thrown together with the livelier Janie Mallowan (Gwyneth Keyworth) after a murder on his street. Their odd-couple partnership is built on opposing instincts: John is cautious and methodical while Janie is impulsive and quick to leap to conclusions, and their bickering keeps each case lively. Steffan Rhodri plays DCI Barry Clarke, whose official police investigation the pair frequently circles and sometimes irritates, while Rithvik Andugula appears as DC Evan Chaudhry. Each weekly 45-minute episode follows a fresh murder that the duo works to unravel, with clues scattered across small Welsh communities and the stunning Welsh landscape providing a warm, picturesque backdrop. The overall tone is cheerful and comforting, with gentle humour carrying the investigations. The series runs two seasons of six episodes each and is still returning. Fans of Death in Paradise, Shetland and Hamish Macbeth will find a similar appeal in its quirky investigators and scenic British crime.
