## Synopsis

Sortilegio (2009) is a Mexican telenovela created by María Zarattini for Las Estrellas, a single-season romance drama produced by Televisa across 90 episodes. Jacqueline Bracamontes plays María José, a simple small-town woman eagerly awaiting her wedding to Alejandro Lombardo, played by William Levy, only to learn that the man she is about to marry is actually Bruno, the half-brother of the real Alejandro, who has inherited a vast fortune. David Zepeda plays Bruno, and Daniela Romo plays the matriarch Victoria, whose family ties and fortune shape the web of lies. Fernando Alanís, played by Gabriel Soto, and Chantal Andere as Raquel add rival loyalties and romantic tangles. The engine of the show is a tug of war between a deception that must be kept hidden and a heroine whose trust is slowly tested, with each episode layering new schemes, confrontations and emotional reversals. Set in contemporary Mexico among wealthy families and humble neighborhoods, it moves with the heightened melodrama of the form, blending romance, class tension and suspense. Fans of Yo soy Betty, la fea, Rubí and Dallas will find resonance in its soapy intrigue, inheritance rivalries and dramatic reversals of fortune. The tone is passionate and sentimental, with a steady pull of suspense.
