## Synopsis

Community (2009-2015) is an American network sitcom created by Dan Harmon for NBC, with a later run on Yahoo! Screen. Joel McHale plays Jeff Winger, a disbarred lawyer who enrolls at Greendale Community College in the fictional Colorado town to chase a degree he never intended to earn. He forms a Spanish study group with an odd set of classmates: Gillian Jacobs as the cynical Britta Perry, Alison Brie as the anxious Annie Edison, Danny Pudi as the pop culture obsessed Abed Nadir, and Donald Glover as Troy Barnes. Yvette Nicole Brown plays the warm, exasperated Shirley Bennett, while Jim Rash runs the school as the theatrically ambitious Dean Craig Pelton. The engine of the show is Jeff's scheming to get through class and the group's constant collisions with petty campus politics, romantic entanglements and their own neuroses. Each episode is a self-contained comedy, but the stories build into a loose ongoing arc across six seasons and 110 episodes. Its tone is wry, absurd and self-aware, and it parodies film and television genres with bold, meta invention, including heist, zombie and claymation episodes. Fans of 30 Rock, Arrested Development and Parks and Recreation will find resonance in its genre-savvy ensemble humor, with a sentimental core that surfaces beneath the cynicism.
