## Synopsis

I Hear the Sunspot (2024) is a Japanese miniseries adapted from a manga, a twelve-episode gay romance drama produced by TV Tokyo and aired across several regional networks. Deaf university student Kohei Sugihara (Motoki Nakazawa) keeps his distance from campus life until he hires Taichi Sagawa (Toranosuke Kobayashi), an extroverted classmate who volunteers to take notes for his lectures in exchange for food. Their engine is the slow accumulation of small gestures: notes passed across desks, meals shared, and the awkward work of learning each other's language, both spoken and signed. Supporting performances from Takuma Usa and Omi Natsuki as friends and Naomi Nishida as Kohei's mother give the story a warm circle of everyday life around the central pair. The tone is gentle, sincere and wistful, with quiet campus scenes and a patient, low-key pacing that rewards viewers who enjoy slow burn emotion. Fans of Heartstopper, Bad Buddy and Kimi ni Todoke will find a similar tenderness in its depiction of first love. Its strongest pleasures are tender confessions and tentative affection, while its structure leaves some viewers wanting more time together between the leads.
