## Synopsis

Mar afuera (2025) is a Spanish teen drama series created for Disney+ and Atresplayer, produced by Beta Fiction Spain and Atresmedia. Gabriel Guevara plays Álvaro, a 17-year-old from a wealthy family whose life turns sharply downward after an accident lands him in a juvenile detention centre. Hugo Welzel plays Carlos and Laura Simón plays Saray, both part of the young world he must navigate inside the correctional facility. The engine of the story is Álvaro's struggle to adapt to a harsh institution where his background offers him no protection, and each episode follows the friction, loyalties and small defiances that shape daily life behind the walls. Presented as a single eight-episode season of about fifty-two minutes each, it is a contained, serialized drama rather than a case-of-the-week format. The series carries a grounded, earnest tone, with an intimate focus on a young man's shifting identity and the collision of privilege with hardship. Its emotional register is tense and reflective, set in contemporary Spain. Viewers who enjoyed the class-conscious teen dramas of Élite and the institutional coming-of-age stories of Sex Education will find resonance here.
