## Synopsis

Father Ted (1995-1998) is a British-Irish comedy series created by Arthur Mathews and Graham Linehan for Channel 4. Across three seasons and 24 episodes of roughly 24 minutes each, it follows Father Ted Crilly (Dermot Morgan), a scheming priest exiled with the dim, childlike Father Dougal McGuire (Ardal O'Hanlon) to the remote Craggy Island off the Irish west coast. Their housekeeper Mrs. Doyle (Pauline McLynn) keeps them fed and tolerated, while the hard-drinking Father Jack Hackett (Frank Kelly) lurches through every episode. The engine is simple and absurd: a parish with no visitors, a bishop who keeps arriving, and small schemes that spiral into bizarre mishaps. Each episode is largely self-contained, a classic sitcom structure. The tone is irreverent, deadpan and surreal, with sharp satire aimed at Irish Catholic institutions and their rules. Fans of The IT Crowd, Black Books and Detectorists will find resonance in its oddball characters, awkward humor and cozy, eccentric small-world atmosphere.
