## Synopsis

Dirty Pop: The Boy Band Scam (2024) is a American true crime docuseries created for Netflix, a three-part limited series of roughly 42-minute episodes. It follows Lou Pearlman, the manager who assembled the biggest boy bands of the 1990s, including the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC, and who ran one of the largest Ponzi schemes in history. Rather than dramatized reenactment, the series is built on archival footage in which Pearlman presents himself to the camera, and it lets the contrast between his polished showmanship and the financial wreckage beneath it do the work. Each episode moves through the machinery of the pop industry, from the manufacturing of teen groups and their chart success to the money flowing through the operation and the people who trusted him. The tone is sharp and skeptical, with a steady undercurrent of anger at how young performers and ordinary investors were exploited. Fans of The Tinder Swindler, Framing Britney Spears and Inventing Anna will find resonance in its portrait of charismatic deception, celebrity fame and the human cost of a con that looked like entertainment.
