## Synopsis

Grand Designs (1999-present) is a British documentary reality series created for Channel 4 and presented by Kevin McCloud, who appears as himself throughout. Rather than following a single protagonist, each episode tracks a different private household attempting an unusual or elaborate architectural home build, from land purchase and planning permission through design revisions, financial strain and construction setbacks. The engine of every episode is the gap between ambition and reality: a couple with a limited budget and a bold concept, a family building in an awkward plot, a designer testing an experimental material. McCloud brings a dry, enthusiastic commentary, visiting sites and questioning choices. The show has run for twenty-eight seasons, a long anthology-style run where each season is made of standalone projects rather than one continuing story. Its tone is earnest, inspiring and often tense, with moments of comedy when budgets slip or weather intervenes. Fans of Property Ladder, Location, Location, Location and Restoration Home will find similar appeal in its mix of aspirational design and candid, unscripted money trouble. Set in contemporary Britain, it suits viewers who enjoy watching architecture take shape from start to finish.
