## Synopsis

Golden Kamuy -The Hunt of Prisoners in Hokkaido- (2024) is a Japanese live action adaptation of the manga, produced for WOWOW Prime and created by Tsutomu Kuroiwa, Shigeaki Kubo and Kenji Katagiri. Across a single nine-episode season, the story follows Saichi Sugimoto (Kento Yamazaki), a battle-hardened veteran, and Asirpa (Anna Yamada), a resourceful Ainu girl, as they pursue the remaining tattooed convicts whose skin carries pieces of a hidden gold map. Each encounter pits the pair against rival hunters and desperate outlaws, with Ogata Hyakunosuke (Gordon Maeda) and other rivals shadowing their path. The engine is a chase across snowy mountains and rough frontier towns, where every capture reveals a new clue and every betrayal raises the stakes. The tone blends rugged action with sly comedy and moments of cultural warmth, set in the Meiji era of Hokkaido. Fans of Hell on Wheels and Deadwood will find resonance in its frontier grit and colorful outlaw ensemble. Its self-contained single season, filmed with a broad adventurous energy, makes it a lively treasure hunt for viewers seeking historical action.
