## Synopsis

The Nazis: A Warning from History (1997) is a British documentary history series created by Laurence Rees for BBC Two. Narrated by Samuel West, this six-episode miniseries of roughly 48 minutes per episode examines Adolf Hitler and the Nazi movement across their rise to power, their zenith, and their decline and fall. Rather than dramatizing events, it builds its account from archive footage and interviews with eyewitnesses, letting firsthand memory sit alongside the historical record. Each episode moves through a stage of the regime, following how political opportunism, propaganda, and the consolidation of authority turned a fringe party into a state apparatus, and then into a war machine. The tone is sober, measured and often chilling, with an emphasis on the consequences of the regime's reign. Viewers drawn to the grim intimacy of The World at War or the testimony-driven weight of Shoah will find the same serious, archive-rooted approach here. Set across the Third Reich era in Germany and occupied Europe, it suits anyone seeking a concise, authoritative survey of twentieth century fascism and the Second World War. The series ends on the regime's collapse, presented as a cautionary account rather than a drama.
