## Synopsis

The Backyardigans (2004-2013) is a Canadian preschool animated musical series created by Janice Burgess for Treehouse TV. Five lively animal friends, including the imaginative Pablo, the bold Tasha, the thoughtful Uniqua, the adventurous Austin and the playful Tyrone, use pretend play to launch themselves into outrageous adventures in magical places. Voice performances by LaShawn Tináh Jefferies as Uniqua, Naelee Rae as Tasha, Jonah Bobo as Austin and Jake Goldberg as Pablo give each character a distinct personality, while singing voices by Sean Curley and Jamia Simone Nash carry the show's catchy songs. Each twenty-five minute episode follows a self-contained storyline, with the friends building a scenario, assigning roles and working together to solve whatever problem arises before the adventure wraps up. The bright three-dimensional animation and cheerful, gentle tone make it a comforting pick for young children. Its emphasis on cooperation, friendship and imaginative play resonates with fans of Bluey, Dora the Explorer and Yo Gabba Gabba, and the four seasons across seventy-nine episodes offer plenty of short, repeatable adventures for families to enjoy together.
