## Synopsis

Oruchuban Ebichu (1999) is a Japanese adult animated comedy series created as a GAINAX and Group TAC production, adapted from the seinen manga and aired on DirecTV. Ebichu, a hamster who acts as the perfect house pet, cleans, shops, cooks and does laundry for her master, a harried Office Lady known only as OL. Ebichu's unfaithful boyfriend and her uncontrollable exuberance for ice cream often bring severe and bloody punishment down on her, yet she accepts the abuse as long as it makes her master a little happier. Voiced by Kotono Mitsuishi as Ebichu and Michie Tomizawa as the Master, with Tomokazu Seki as the Useless Bum and Mitsuo Iwata as Maa-kun, the twenty-four episodes are short eight-minute vignettes of domestic absurdity. The tone is cheerfully irreverent, with cute visuals clashing against violent and lewd gags. Fans of Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Happy Tree Friends will find resonance in its gleeful, crude mischief, while viewers wanting a more gentle animal household may enjoy Hamtaro.
