## Synopsis

Future Boy Conan (1978) is a Japanese animated adventure produced by NHK and Nippon Animation, with work associated with Hayao Miyazaki. Set in a drowned future where a catastrophic war in 2008 has left much of the planet submerged, the story follows Conan, a boy raised alone on a remote island who has never met another person. His quiet life changes when Lana, a mysterious girl, washes up on his beach. The two form a quick bond before she is kidnapped and taken to Industria, a remnant of the old world. Conan sets out across the ocean in pursuit, and the series unfolds as a sequence of sea voyages, new lands, and companions and enemies met beyond each horizon. The tone is earnest, sunny and adventurous, with wonder at the wider world and a steady sense of loyalty and friendship at its core. Its environmental concerns and sweeping sense of scale recall Miyazaki's later films, while the episodic stops keep the journey lively and accessible. It is a warm, hopeful watch for families and fans of classic anime adventure.
