## Synopsis

The Guest (2025) is a British psychological thriller series created by Matthew Barry for BBC One. Eve Myles plays businesswoman Fran Sharp, who hires a cleaner, Ria Powell (Gabrielle Creevy), and draws her into a friendship that quickly becomes something more controlling. The engine of the show is the shifting balance of power between the two women: each small kindness, favor, or confidence becomes a move in a manipulative contest where neither can easily step away. Episodes unfold in the domestic spaces of a wealthy household and the business world surrounding it, with tension building from ordinary moments that carry hidden threats. The four-episode season moves at a brisk, hour-long pace, shaped like a single continuing story rather than a case of the week. Set in contemporary Britain, it foregrounds class resentment, loyalty, and the slow erosion of boundaries. Its tone is tense, intimate, and quietly sinister, with a steady undercurrent of dread. Fans of Gone Girl, The Perfect Nanny, and Mare of Easttown will find resonance in its psychological brinkmanship and its portrait of a relationship turning dangerous.
