## Synopsis

Into the White Night (2006) is a Japanese crime drama series created for TBS and adapted from Keigo Higashino's novel, running eleven episodes. Ryoji Kirihara (Takayuki Yamada) and Yukiho Karasawa (Haruka Ayase) are two children who commit separate murders on the same fateful day to protect one another, and the drama follows the fourteen years that follow. Their engine is simple and painful: each must build an ordinary adult life while concealing a web of lies, and every episode tightens the threads that could expose them. Detective Isamu Matsuura (Atsuro Watabe) pursues the case with persistent suspicion, while Yukiho's family and the people around her become entangled in the cover-up. Structured as a single continuing story that moves between the past and the present, the series builds a melancholic, tense atmosphere in which the bond between the two leads feels both tender and suffocating. Its tone is bleak and contemplative, with a romantic undercurrent that deepens the tragedy. Fans of Broadchurch, Confessions and The Night Manager will find resonance in its slow-burn dread, its moral ambiguity, and its focus on the lasting cost of a single night.
