## Synopsis

La canción (2025) is a Spanish historical drama miniseries created by Fran Araújo and Pepe Coira for Movistar Plus. Set in 1968 Spain under the Franco regime, it follows an ambitious television executive, Esteban Guerra (Patrick Criado), who is tasked with delivering a Eurovision Song Contest victory for the state. Carolina Yuste plays Massiel, the singer whose catchy performance of 'La La La' becomes the centerpiece of the operation, while Àlex Brendemühl appears as Artur Kaps and Mariano Peña as Lasso de la Vega among the principal figures around the contest. The engine of the series is the friction between showbiz ambition, political pressure and the practical labor of staging a broadcast spectacle with limited freedom. Across three hour-long episodes, the story moves from preparation to the stage, building a tense yet playful atmosphere of backroom maneuvering and public performance. Its tone is amused and informative, with a historical irony that observes how a pop song becomes a national project. Its handling of period detail, from the television studio to the political offices, suggests comparisons with Cuéntame cómo pasó and the sober reconstruction of Chernobyl, appealing to viewers who enjoy history told through a single high-stakes event.
