## Synopsis

The Outsider (2001) is a Mexican telenovela created by Inés Rodena for Las Estrellas, produced by Televisa. Gabriela Spanic plays Virginia Martínez, a devoted and honest nanny who agrees to marry her wealthy employer Rodrigo Junquera, played in the story's setup by a dying man seeking security for his children. Her engine is simple and painful: she wants to be accepted by a household that treats her as an ambitious gold digger, and every obstacle comes from the family's contempt, especially from Rodrigo's eldest son Carlos Alberto, played by Arturo Peniche, who mistreats her while secretly harboring feelings for her. Dominika Paleta, Sergio Sendel and Laura Zapata round out the principal cast of rival relatives and allies. The series runs as a single continuous story of 135 episodes, with each installment built from confrontations, misunderstandings and inheritance-driven scheming inside a grand mansion. Its tone is melodramatic, romantic and emotionally heightened, with longing and humiliation sitting side by side. Fans of Yo soy Betty, la fea, La usurpadora and Rubí will find resonance in its scorned heroine, class-divided romance and family intrigue.
