## Synopsis

Gilligan's Island is a breezy American network sitcom created by Sherwood Schwartz for CBS in the mid 1960s. Hapless first mate Gilligan and the long-suffering Skipper lead a mismatched group of castaways stranded on an uncharted desert isle after a tour boat is caught in a storm. The engine of the show is simple and cheerful: each episode centers on the group's attempts to get home, and every plan collapses into slapstick and bickering. Wealthy couple Thurston and Lovey Howell bring stuffy airs to the shipwreck, while Ginger and Mary Ann add romantic rivalry and everyday warmth, and the Professor supplies improvised inventions. The episodic format wraps each story up within a half hour, so the tone stays light, goofy and comforting throughout. Its humor is broad and physical, its characters are deliberately exaggerated, and its emotional stakes are gentle. The result is a family-friendly comedy with a classic network sitcom feel, ideal for undemanding comfort viewing. Fans of Lost in Space, F Troop and The Brady Bunch will find the same ensemble charm and gentle slapstick.
