## Synopsis

Nevertheless: The Shapes of Love (2024) is a Japanese romance drama series created by Ryutaro Nakagawa and Jung Seo for Netflix and Drama & Movie Channel. Miu Hamasaki (Sara Minami) is a young woman recovering from a painful breakup who resolves to pour herself into her art and keep love at arm's length. That resolve is tested when she encounters Ren Kosaka (Ryusei Yokohama), an aloof, charming artist whose presence stirs her deepest instincts and reopens old feelings. Supporting characters including Ruki Ikushima (Reo Sano) and Manami Yoshino (Natsuko) fill out the circle of friends and rivals around them. The engine of the series is the push and pull between Miu's self-protective vow and the emotional pull of someone she cannot easily ignore, played out across an eight-episode run of intimate, conversational scenes. Its shape is a single continuous story, a compact limited series rather than a sprawling saga. Set in contemporary Japan, it moves through studio spaces, campus life and everyday city settings with a soft, wistful register. Its tone is tender, quiet and emotionally observant, with an atmosphere of longing and gentle hope. Fans of Blue Period, Sweet Blue Flowers and Heartstopper will find resonance in its youthful romantic sincerity and understated feeling.
